17 October: The Interview

We caught up with Inna Gavruseva, PR & Events Executive for Spirit Cartel, a spirits distribution, sales and marketing agency.

A passionate and creative individual with the ability to express the joy for the things she loves through the life she leads.

Hi Inna, do you feel you can tell a lot about an individual from their choice of beverage?

They say you are what you eat, and I personally believe the same goes for drinks: your personality traits influence what you eat as much as they influence your beverage of choice, or perhaps even your drink reflects your personality and so on. So, for example, if Manhattan is your tipple, you’re most likely witty, sophisticated, well-travelled and appreciate the finer things in life. Or maybe you watch a little too much Mad Men?

You believe you lead your life with intrigue and mystery, each sip allowing you to live the James Bond adventures through the famous Vesper created by Ian Fleming, a drink that would surprise even the most adventurous of cocktail lovers. However, if Cosmopolitan is your signature drink, perhaps you are a confident independent woman as the famous Madonna is, the woman introduced this flamboyant drink to the world, or maybe you are simply a man who just knows what is in vogue?!

I think it’s true that your cocktail preference can lend some insight into your true personality, it may tell how fussy you are when it comes to drinking: whether it’s the quantity or quality of a drink or a combination of complex flavours that bring real pleasure to your drinking experience? I believe it’s about the ability to appreciate and explore what works better in the drink and what is best for you that may also define how you approach other things in life when it comes to making choice.

If you had to drink only one cocktail for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It would have to be French 75, a well balanced sophisticated champagne cocktail with Monkey 47 gin, lemon juice, a touch of sugar topped up with champagne and finished with a cherry. As you know, bubbles are source of happiness, enjoyment and euphoria, what else would you like for the rest of your life? Also, I believe it would be the only cocktail able to match my lively elegance!

What is a great all-round dinner party cocktail I could easily make at home and how?

I think Daiquiri would be a great choice for a dinner party: it’s a fresh and lively cocktail known for its succulent and easy flavours. Easy to make and have fun with. I personally prefer Hemingway Daiquiri, created for Mr Hemingway in Cuba, a slightly more complex tipple that will elevate your taste buds to a whole new level of complexity revealing a soft sweet bitterness that no other drink can bring:
>50 ml Banks 5 Island Rum
>15 ml Maraschino Liqueur
>20 ml Freshly pressed Grapefruit Juice
>20 ml Freshly squeezed Lime Juice
>5 ml Simple Syrup
>1 Cherry

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Double strain into a chilled coupette glass and garnish with a cherry

What are your personal top 5 places to get a perfectly mixed cocktail?

Below are my favourite cocktail bars I’ve been to many, many times and will be definitely coming back to indulge in more beautiful concoctions that keep surprising me differently each time:
Happiness Forgets
Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar
Experimental Cocktail Club
